The Bellflower Buccaneers lost against the Walnut Mustangs back in December of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Bellflower fell 62-53 to Walnut. While losing is never fun, Bellflower can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 528th, while Walnut is ranked 220th).
It was another big night for Myles Wainwright, who scored 18 points along with two steals for Walnut. Wainwright hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiko Guevara, who scored 11 points.
Bellflower's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-8. As for Walnut, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 16-5.
Bellflower and Verbum Dei Jesuit will face off at 12:00 p.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Verbum Dei Jesuit focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday. As for Walnut, they will face off against Marquez at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Marquez has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 282 points over their last four matches.
