Basketball Game Preview: Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights vs. Southampton Academy Raiders

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot and Southampton Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Southampton Academy Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Southampton Academy likes a good challenge.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot will head into Friday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big back in December of 2024 (they won by 33) and back in December of 2024 they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Westover Christian Academy 62-59. While the Knights didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but John Loftin led the charge by going 7 for 15 on his way to 24 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. With that strong performance, Loftin is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Hamner, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Loftin wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Southampton Academy played in conference for the first time on Tuesday and they got just the result they we're looking for. They breezed by Tidewater Academy to the tune of 61-31.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Southampton Academy, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot came up short against Southampton Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 71-61. Can Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
