Amberly Cruz was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Ava Garza was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Clarissa Avila, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
West Mesquite pushed their record up to 19-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sunset, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
West Mesquite will have a chance to go back-to-back against Sunset: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Saturday.
