Basketball Recap: Fruita Monument Now 9-1 over Last Ten Games

If Montrose wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Fruita Monument, they should've done a better job of containing Jhett Wells. The Fruita Monument Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Montrose Red Hawks on Tuesday, sneaking past 47-45 thanks in part to Wells, who posted 25 points along with eight boards and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played.

Montrose lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kaleb Ferguson, who put up 15 points and four steals. Lane Pressler was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

Fruita Monument has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Montrose, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-3.

Fruita Monument and Montrose should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Fruita Monument will challenge Durango at 7:00 p.m. on Friday up 58 places (18 vs. 76). Fruita Monument is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. Meanwhile, Montrose (ranked 32nd) will meet Grand Junction (ranked 117th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fruita Monument is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.1 points per game this season.
