Francis Lewis took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Newtown, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Francis Lewis Patriots' pitcher stepped up to hand the Newtown Pioneers a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday. The one-run effort marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past Renos Pagiatakas, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Newtown off the board. Pagiatakas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Francis Lewis saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Pichardo, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. That double marked the first that Pichardo hit this season.

With the victory, Francis Lewis broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-3.

They will have a chance to go back-to-back against Newtown: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
