Westwood is 0-6 against Mexia since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Westwood Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Mexia Black Cats at 6:30 p.m. Westwood has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Last Friday, Westwood was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 37-36 to Teague. While losing is never fun, Westwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1029th, while Teague is ranked 440th).
Meanwhile, Mexia unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They received a tough blow as they fell 54-38 to Franklin. The match was a 23-23 toss-up at halftime, but Mexia was outscored by Franklin in the second.
Westwood's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-18. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 3.67 points. As for Mexia, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-11.
Westwood couldn't quite finish off Mexia in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 and fell 27-25. Can Westwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
