The Braxton County Eagles will head out to face off against the Philip Barbour Colts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Braxton County's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Tyler 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since May 8, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Owen Lowther, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Braxton County is undefeated when Lowther posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-14 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Philip Barbour had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Bulldogs.
Landyn Carpenter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Carpenter was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kent Rowan was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since April 2nd. Another player making a difference was Kale Wolfe, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Philip Barbour's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Braxton County, their record now sits at 5-14.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Braxton County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Philip Barbour struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Braxton County couldn't quite get it done against Philip Barbour when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 8-3. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
