The Redwater Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the West Rusk Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Redwater will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 802nd, while West Rusk is ranked 332nd).
Last Friday, Redwater had to suffer through a rough 50-18 loss at the hands of De Kalb. Redwater was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-12.
Despite their defeat, Redwater saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gavin Carrell, who threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Farrar, who rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, West Rusk entered their tilt with Edgewood with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. West Rusk strolled past Edgewood with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 43-28.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Rusk to victory, but perhaps none more so than Judson Dotson, who rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Dotson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards. Cole Jackson and his 116 yards on the ground were also a key factor in West Rusk's victory.
This is the second loss in a row for Redwater and nudges their season record down to 4-5. As for West Rusk, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
