It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Oxford Yellow Jackets had no problem doing just that on Friday. They strolled past Athens with points to spare, taking the game 45-27. The win was familiar territory for Oxford who now have three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Oxford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mason Mims, who threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Jaydon Thomas was another key contributor, rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was JayShon Ridgle, who picked up 145 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was John Mcintyre, who rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
Oxford's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Athens, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Oxford will face off against Parker at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Parker will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. Athens does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
