Jack Britt hasn't had much luck against Cape Fear recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Jack Britt Buccaneers will take on the Cape Fear Colts at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
While Jack Britt didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Seventy-First on Friday as Jack Britt made off with an 11-4 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Buccaneers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Ryder Blackburn and Cameron Byers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Blackburn didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Byers struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Blackburn has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Blackburn scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Byers scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-5. Byers also scored three runs, which is notable because Jack Britt is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise.
In other batting news, Cale Strickland was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alex Jones, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cape Fear). They never let Douglas Byrd get on the board and left with a 29-0 victory on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Colts with their most commanding win of the season.
Caden Jeffrey was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single hit, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Frank Welsh was a standout: he went 5-for-6 with five runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Landon Underwood also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Cape Fear always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cape Fear has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. Jack Britt's record is now 5-2.
Both Jack Britt and Cape Fear just can't seem to miss. Jack Britt has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Cape Fear struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
