Softball Recap: Rising Tide Has No Trouble Against Mashpee

Rising Tide's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Mashpee Falcons as they made off with a 21-8 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Rising Tide considering their two-run performance the match before.

Alanna Flanders made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shelby Ruth, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six runs, three stolen bases, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Emily Melby, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base.

Rising Tide kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Rising Tide pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Mashpee, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rising Tide will challenge St. John Paul II at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.75 runs per game on average), something Rising Tide will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mashpee, they will square off against Randolph at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
