Basketball Recap: Innovation Academy Takes a Loss

Innovation Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Notre Dame Cristo Rey Panthers and fell 79-51. The The Red Tailed Hawk were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2019.

Innovation Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Elijah Vega, who went 8 for 17 en route to 18 points, and Bryce Kankam, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Kankam is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jordy Pe?a-Lugo was another key player, putting up five points.

Notre Dame Cristo Rey found their leader in sophomore D Osuna, who posted 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Osuna has scored all season. Another player making a difference was S Garcia, who scored 17 points.

Innovation Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Notre Dame Cristo Rey, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1.

Innovation Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-53 loss against Mystic Valley Regional on the 14th. As for Notre Dame Cristo Rey, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 63-52 victory against Minuteman Regional on the 16th.
