The Oasis Sharks will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the First Baptist Academy Lions on February 5th. Oasis comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Tuesday, Oasis took a serious blow against the Seahawks, falling 59-22. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Oasis in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now lost eight in a row.
Meanwhile, First Baptist Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 34-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of Seacrest Country Day. While losing is never fun, First Baptist Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Stingrays are ranked 74th).
The losing side was boosted by Zara Leilani Stewart, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 54.2% of First Baptist Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Oasis' defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.8 points per game. As for First Baptist Academy, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-11.
Oasis suffered a grim 57-35 defeat to the Lions in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Oasis avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
