The Broomfield Eagles will face off against the Erie Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Broomfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Broomfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over Boulder on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Nate Wochner looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Talan Hutchings was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-2. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Caden Williamson was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Broomfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Erie came up short against Silver Creek on Tuesday and fell 6-3.
Erie saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Burnett, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Erie's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Broomfield, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Broomfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Erie struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Broomfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Erie in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 8-4. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
