Ylurey Melfor and Kelvin Perez were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Melfor pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Perez pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Melfor a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, Melfor scored two runs while going 4-for-4, while Perez went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run. Melfor has become a key player for Dade Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Alexander Mendoza Jr was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Juan Rivera Jr was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Dade Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.2.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Cooper City ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Western, sneaking past 4-2. The game was the first time the Cowboys have beaten the Wildcats on their field since April 22, 2015.
Cooper City also got a great performance from Kevin McCormick as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. McCormick has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nick Tubito, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Cooper City and bumps their season record up to 6-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Dade Christian, they pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dade Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cooper City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
