Baseball Recap: Rifle Takes a Loss

Rifle extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 8-8 in the process. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Delta Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 6-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Quentin Kramer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Rifle is 2-1 when Kramer posts two or more runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

As for Delta, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games.

On Delta's side, Landon Kennell and Ty Reed made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kennell tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Reed didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kennell got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, while Reed went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jhett Ryan, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Rifle didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-1 defeat against Basalt on the 29th. As for Delta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-6 victory against Gunnison on the 29th.
