Ray is a perfect 7-0 against Patagonia since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bearcats will venture away from home to take on the Lobos at 3:45 p.m. Ray is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.9 runs per game this season.
Ray lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Miami, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. The Bearcats' pitchers stepped up to hand the Vandals a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bearcats.
Ray got a massive performance out of Ty Chesnut, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was Chesnut's first of the season. Chase Chester was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Ray always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Meanwhile, Patagonia fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against St. David on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 12-8 to the Tigers. The Lobos just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Kannon Shore put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Patagonia is 2-1 when Shore allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Shore was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
Shore wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Rodhe, who went 4-for-5 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another was Miguel Albarron, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Ray's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Patagonia, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ray has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .500. However, it's not like Patagonia struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ray got the 'W' when the teams last played last Monday against Patagonia by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Bearcats repeat their success, or do the Lobos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
