Mountain View is 9-1 against Battle Ground since November of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Mountain View Thunder will head out on the road to square off against the Battle Ground Tigers at 5:15 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Two weeks ago, things could have been worse for Mountain View, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-40 loss to Evergreen.
Despite the defeat, Mountain View saw an underclassman step up: Mylee Thompson scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Wright, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Battle Ground's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to La Center 37-33.
Battle Ground's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Valentine Micheneau, who scored nine points along with three steals, and Marissa Loveall who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Loveall has scored all season. Ava Robertson was another key contributor, scoring no points along with 11 rebounds and six steals.
Even though they lost, Battle Ground smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Mountain View's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-3. As for Battle Ground, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-10.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's contest: Mountain View have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having averaged 9.1 threes per game. It's a different story for Battle Ground, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 threes per game. Given Mountain View's sizeable advantage in that area, Battle Ground will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Mountain View against Battle Ground when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 76-26 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain View since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
