The Maysville Panthers will be playing at home against the West Muskingum Tornadoes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Maysville has five straight victories, West Muskingum has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though New Lexington scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Maysville still came out on top. Maysville walked away with a 67-57 win over New Lexington.
Alex Bobb was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 0 assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Maysville's points. Jordyn Watson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, West Muskingum struggled with assists on Tuesday (John Glenn had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. West Muskingum fell 58-45 to John Glenn. While losing is never fun, West Muskingum can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while John Glenn is ranked 212th).
West Muskingum's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Carter Smith, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, and Conner Hill who scored 12 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Coleman Loyd, who scored five points along with two steals.
Maysville is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for West Muskingum, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9.
Maysville was able to grind out a solid win over West Muskingum in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 59-47. Does Maysville have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Muskingum turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
