Basketball Recap: Delwan Waller and Myles Tyler Secure Win for Thomas Dale

Thomas Dale won the last time they faced Colonial Heights and things went their way on Friday too. The Thomas Dale Knights strolled past the Colonial Heights Colonials with points to spare, taking the game 68-49. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Colonials are ranked 149th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Thomas Dale was led to victory by Myles Tyler and Delwan Waller. Tyler posted 18 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, while Waller dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Tyler a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Medley, who put up six points and 11 rebounds.

Thomas Dale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Colonial Heights' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bret Lipscomb, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Za'Marion Mason, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points and three blocks.

Thomas Dale pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Colonial Heights, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Thomas Dale wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 80-50 win against Grassfield on the 14th. As for Colonial Heights, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-50 victory against Nottoway on the 16th.
