The Mendon Hornets will head out on the road to challenge the St. Philip Catholic Central Fighting Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Mendon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Thursday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, a fact Mendon proved. They blew past Athens 66-26 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Mendon has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mendon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryder Gorham, who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Quincy Blair, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, St. Philip Catholic Central was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 55-49 to Bellevue.
Mendon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. As for St. Philip Catholic Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Mendon came up short against St. Philip Catholic Central in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 70-58. Can Mendon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
