After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Elder, the Archbishop McNicholas Rockets were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Covington Catholic and snuck past 61-58. The victory was all the more spectacular given Archbishop McNicholas' disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 189th in Ohio, while Covington Catholic is ranked 19th in Kentucky).
Archbishop McNicholas was led to victory by Andrew Ehlers and Grant Waters. Ehlers dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, while Waters scored 24 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ehlers has scored at least 25% of Archbishop McNicholas' points. Another player making a difference was Mitchell Conrad, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Archbishop McNicholas now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Covington Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Archbishop McNicholas and Mars will round out the year against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. Mars is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. Covington Catholic and Florida State University High School will face off at 3:00 p.m. on December 28th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Florida State University High School has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 190 points over their last three games.
