Baseball Game Preview: Ezekiel Academy Knights vs. Evangel Christian Lightning

Ezekiel Academy is 2-8 against Evangel Christian since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Knights will face off against the Lightning at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Ezekiel Academy was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Tuscaloosa Home Educators 8-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Braylen Bonner and Brennan Hancock did most of the damage at the plate: Bonner scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Hancock scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Hancock a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Evangel Christian had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Friday. They came out on top against the Rebels by a score of 6-2.

Evangel Christian let WILL WELCH and TREY HOPE run wild. WELCH scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while HOPE scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. WELCH has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Evangel Christian's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Ezekiel Academy, their record now sits at 4-13.

Ezekiel Academy might still be hurting after the 16-2 defeat they got from Evangel Christian in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
