If The Colonia Patriots were feeling good off their 35-7 takedown of the Rahway Indians last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Colonia fell 21-14 to Roxbury on Friday. While losing is never fun, Colonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while Roxbury is ranked 30th).
Despite the loss, Colonia still got an impressive performance from Jaeden Jones, who rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Jones is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played.
Roxbury's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Skawinski led the charge by rushing for 86 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 92 yards and a touchdown on only eight passes. Skawinski is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Jahmani Miller and his 209 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Roxbury's victory.
Colonia's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Roxbury, their win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0.
Colonia does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Roxbury will take on Irvington at TBD on Friday. Irvington will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
