Basketball Recap: Zariah Harrell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Surry County over Mathews

Surry County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost to the Mathews Blue Devils at home by a 49-33 margin. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2017.

Surry County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zariah Harrell, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 16 points and seven rebounds. Harrell is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Adalynn Swanner was another key player, putting up three points and 17 boards.

Surry County's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Mathews, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
