Shore - North A recap Sept. 26, 2012
Middletown South was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in Shore - North A. Earlier in the week, the Eagles triumphed over Howell 35-7.
Marlboro moved up to 244 from 281 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mustangs were able to make the jump by beating the Mustangs 34-6.
Colts Neck's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mike Campbell threw for 128 and two touchdowns and Tim Vangelas had 98 yards receiving. On the ground Anthony Gargiulo chipped in 148 yards. Connor Canonico helped Colts Neck's passing attack out by catching one ball for 26 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Campbell and Gargiulo the Cougars have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Campbell leads the league in passing with 516 yards, while Gargiulo has rushed for 390 yards this season. Manalapan's Anthony Firkser leads the league in receiving yards with 298 on nine catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Middletown South takes on second place Manalapan. Last week, Middletown South bested the Rebels, while the Braves beat Middletown North.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Steven Antonucci's team takes on Manalapan. The Eagles have allowed seven points this season, while Ed Gurrieri's team has given up 18. Middletown South allowed 7 points last week as it topped Howell.
Marlboro made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,956 from 10,411. The improvement came about via a 34-6 victory over Derek Sininsky's team last week.
