Everything went their way against the Sotomayor WILDCATS on Friday as the Taft Raiders made off with a 22-5 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Alyssa Rangel made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-6. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.
In other batting news, Jacelyn Parks was a standout: she scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Sophia Quiroz was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Taft was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .657. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in nine consecutive contests.
Taft pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.7 runs over those games. Coming up, Taft will look to defend their home field on Monday against Harlan at 10:00 a.m. Harlan knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Taft likes a good challenge. As for Sotomayor, they are taking a road trip to take on Warren at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
