It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lake Norman had no problem doing just that on Friday. Everything went their way against the Watauga Pioneers as they made off with an 86-66 victory. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 23 games by 20 points or more this season.
Leading Lake Norman to victory were Alexis Shehan and Kelsey Rhyne. Shehan dropped a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds, while Rhyne shot 60% from the field on her way to 29 points. Rhyne's big performance that evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Samantha Shehan was another key player, putting up 14 points and six boards.
Blair Haines and Kate Sears certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Haines went 9-for-18 en route to 25 points, while Sears dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Sears is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in each of the last 16 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Darner, who posted three points along with seven assists and five boards.
The win (which was Lake Norman's 20th in a row) raised their record to 28-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 42.6 points. As for Watauga, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-6.
