Nonnewaug is 9-1 against the Bears since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Nonnewaug Chiefs will head out on the road to challenge the Thomaston Bears at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Nonnewaug came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points) and they left with even more momentum. They slipped by Shepaug Valley 66-65.
Meanwhile, Thomaston was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 59-58 to the Kangaroos. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (57), Thomaston still had to take the loss.
Nonnewaug pushed their record up to 12-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.7 points per game. As for Thomaston, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Nonnewaug didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Bears in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 69-64 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Nonnewaug since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
