Last Thursday, Thomas Jefferson had a bit more than a touchdown to spare in a 22-15 win over Haynes Academy. The team accrued the bulk of their points in the first half (16) and coasted on those for the win.
Meanwhile, Newman took care of business in their home opener. They were the clear victor with a 34-7 margin. They were heavily favored coming into this matchup, and the results showcase why.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 1-0. In their win, Thomas Jefferson relied heavily on senior Brian Johnson, who rushed for 53 yards and 3 touchdowns; a key strategy for Newman will lie in finding a way to minimize his impact.
