Even though the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines have not done well against the Mabel-Canton Cougars recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Glenville-Emmons secured a 66-61 W over Mabel-Canton. Glenville-Emmons' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
When it comes to explaining why Mabel-Canton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cayden Tollefsrud. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Tollefsrud is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Underbakke, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Glenville-Emmons' victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-7. As for Mabel-Canton, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-8.
Glenville-Emmons won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Grand Meadow at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. As for Mabel-Canton, Mabel-Canton and Schaeffer Academy will face off at 6:15 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Schaeffer Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Mabel-Canton likes a good challenge.
