The Stanton County Trojans started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against the Oakley Plainsmen. They were the victim of a tough 34-12 loss at the hands of the Plainsmen on Thursday. Stanton County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Stanton County saw an underclassman step up: Arihm Gonzalez rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Oakley found their leader in underclassman Jorgan Schiltz, who rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown. Schiltz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards. Ace Plummer also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Stanton County has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Oakley, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stanton County will challenge Conway Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Conway Springs' favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five matches. As for Oakley, they will head out on the road to face off against Medicine Lodge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Medicine Lodge will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
