Sumner-Eddyville-Miller is 1-9 against the Eagles since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs will square off against the Overton Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Sumner-Eddyville-Miller sitting on six straight wins and the Eagles on 15.
Last Thursday, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller earned a 54-42 win over the Buffaloes.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller can attribute much of their success to Taryn Arbuthnot, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, and Mikah O'Neill, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. Arbuthnot is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Allie Rohde, who scored two points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Overton was able to grind out a solid victory over the Falcons on Thursday, taking the game 36-28.
Overton had a senior duo take command as Natalie Wood dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds and Jolee Ryan dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. Wood hasn't dropped below 12 rebounds for four straight games.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Overton, their win bumped their record up to 19-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sumner-Eddyville-Miller have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 37.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller beat the Eagles 55-47 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
