The Moore Haven Terriers will challenge the John Carroll Catholic Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Moore Haven gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 21-3 margin over Clewiston. The game was the first time the Terriers have beaten the Tigers on their field since February 28, 2020.
Preslynn Baker and Brooklyn Sergent were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Baker tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sergent tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Baker went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Sergent went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, JoEllen Erskin was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Neska Blissett, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Moore Haven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clewiston only posted an OBP of .300.
Meanwhile, John Carroll Catholic came tearing into Wednesday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Sharks an 11-0 shutout.
Like Moore Haven, John Carroll Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Makayla Ortiz. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Ortiz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Briley Orton and Isabella Ramirez did most of the damage at the plate: Orton went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Ramirez went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Victoria O'Brien was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
John Carroll Catholic's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Moore Haven, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Moore Haven hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like John Carroll Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .390. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Moore Haven came up short against John Carroll Catholic in their previous matchup back in March, falling 5-0. Will the Terriers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
