Sullivan is 0-10 against Warrensburg-Latham since April of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Redskins will challenge the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m.
Sullivan is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Villa Grove.
Sullivan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Schafer Ogle, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Kolton Wiley also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Warrensburg-Latham came tearing into Thursday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hawks a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Eastyn McKenzie, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Kristopher Lawson, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Warrensburg-Latham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Warrensburg-Latham pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sullivan, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sullivan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Warrensburg-Latham struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Sullivan couldn't quite finish off Warrensburg-Latham in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Redskins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
