Softball Recap: Milford Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Milford barely beat William Penn the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Buccaneers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Colonials a 17-0 shutout on Monday. The victory was nothing new for the Buccaneers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Kay Wooleyhand made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wooleyhand was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Milford got a massive performance out of Adri Fountain, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Fountain has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ri Adams, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Milford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Milford pushed their record up to 9-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for William Penn, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milford will square off against Lake Forest at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so the Buccaneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for William Penn, they will head out on the road to face off against Christiana at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
