Even though The St. John's Islanders have not done well against the Baptist Hill Bobcats recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. St. John's was the clear victor by a 29-6 margin over Baptist Hill. St. John's pushed the score to 29-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Baptist Hill cut but never quite recovered from.
Baptist Hill's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Harold Gathers, who threw for 316 yards and four touchdowns. Gathers is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rickey Middleton Jr., who gained 162 total yards and a touchdown.
St. John's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Baptist Hill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.
St. John's will take on Johnsonville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Baptist Hill, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Carvers Bay at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Carvers Bay is ranked 201st, while Baptist Hill is ranked 215th).
