The Falls Lake Firebirds just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Bunn Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Falls Lake has four straight wins, Bunn has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
On Thursday, Falls Lake didn't have too much trouble with Vance Charter as they won 48-34.
Falls Lake's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jeneen Mason, who posted 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals, and Destiny Williams, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Williams also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Falls Lake is 4-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Madisyn Shedd, who had five points.
Meanwhile, Bunn scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 62-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Warren County.
Falls Lake will need focus on slowing down Makayla Richardson, one of several Bunn players who made an impact when they last played. She put up 25 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The contest was Richardson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Arnold, who went 8 of 18 on her way to 17 points and four steals.
Falls Lake is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Bunn, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Falls Lake has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Bunn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything went Falls Lake's way against Bunn in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as Falls Lake made off with a 53-28 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Falls Lake since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
