The Newberry Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Abbeville Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Newberry is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Newberry was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-38 to Mid-Carolina.
Despite the loss, Newberry saw an underclassman step up: Daizee Williams scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Grey, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, sadly, Abbeville is still looking for their first win of the season after nine matches. They were beaten by Mid-Carolina 36-9 on Tuesday. Abbeville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-2.
Newberry has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Abbeville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
Newberry took their win against Abbeville in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 32-12. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newberry since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
