Basketball Recap: Jalil Powell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Heritage Christian

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Highland, Hammond Academy of Science & Tech was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 42-35 victory over the Heritage Christian Defenders. This was payback for the Hawks, who suffered a 53-50 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jalil Powell, who went 8 of 15 en route to 18 points and five assists. The dominant performance gave Powell a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Reyes, who posted nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Despite the loss, Heritage Christian still got an impressive performance from Andrew Regnerus, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 16 points. The match was Regnerus' fifth in a row with at least ten points.

The victory got Hammond Academy of Science & Tech back to even at 2-2. As for Heritage Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-35 defeat against Washington Township on the 10th. As for Heritage Christian, they will face off against DeMotte Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
