Greater Nanticoke Area is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Monday. They fell 9-6 to Hanover Area.
Kileigh Casey and Rilee Ruminski stepped up to the plate in a big way. Casey went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run, while Ruminski went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That hit marked the first that Ruminski has got this season.
Holy Redeemer came out on top against MMI Preparatory School on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run third inning. The Royals never let MMI Preparatory School get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Anne Carter was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Zoe Pecuch was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Katie Genovese, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Holy Redeemer hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.
Holy Redeemer is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Greater Nanticoke Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-12.
Greater Nanticoke Area suffered a grim 22-1 defeat to Holy Redeemer when the teams last played back in April. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
