If the Cortez Colts were feeling good off their 47-17 takedown of the Coronado Dons last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cortez took a 63-44 bruising from Combs on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Cortez of the 53-19 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2022.
Combs was led to victory by Alyssa Walters and Heather Jo Bush. Walters scored ten points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, while Bush dropped a double-double on 11 points and 19 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bush has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jazelle Langowski, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Cortez's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Combs, their win bumped their record up to 5-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cortez won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Vista Grande at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Vista Grande has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 267 points over their last four games.
