The Spencer Greenwave's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. Their tough 71-49 defeat to Lassiter might stick with them for a while. Spencer found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up 15 fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Spencer still got an impressive performance from Alexandria Berk, who scored 22 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Malaja Dyous, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Lassiter was led to victory by Kenzie Wyman and Claire Mackenny. Wyman scored 23 points, while Mackenny dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Sophie Hortman was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight assists and three steals.
Spencer's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Lassiter, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spencer will take on Jordan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jordan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 465th, while Spencer is ranked 202nd). Lassiter and Johns Creek will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Johns Creek is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
