Walnut hit Thrasher with a six-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rebels took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.
Ryan Tate and Hayden Hopkins put in work no matter where they played. On the mound, Tate didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Hopkins pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). At the plate, Tate went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Hopkins went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bryton Roberts, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Braden Womble also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Pine Grove made easy work of Falkner on Tuesday and carried off a 13-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Tucker Hargett looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Talen Wilkerson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Peyton Tidwell, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Thrasher's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Pine Grove, the victory was their first at home, bumping their record up to 3-6.
