Pompton Lakes was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping New Milford. The Cardinals came in at 20 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
Pompton Lakes extended the longest winning streak in North Jersey - Liberty this week by beating the Knights, 48-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Cardinals.
Pompton Lakes' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Robbie Meyers threw for 186 and three touchdowns and Drew Rayford had 115 yards receiving. On the ground Dane Torres chipped in 154 yards. Corey Flynn helped Pompton Lakes' passing attack out by catching six balls for 52 yards.
The Cardinals' Meyers and Rayford have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Meyers has thrown for 798 yards this season, while Rayford, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 14 catches for 292 yards. Dante Tobler from New Milford leads the league in rushing with 1116 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Knights take on Cresskill. At the moment, New Milford is in second, while the Cougars are in third.
