3A Region 6 recap Oct. 9, 2012
McLaurin extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 6 this week by beating Raleigh, 21-14. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Morton led the league in scoring this week after putting up 45 points on St. Andrews Episcopal. Jymier Slocum threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 83 yards in the win.
Eric McGee was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 128 yards as McLaurin topped the Saints. Teammate Corderius Davis added to the ground attack by rushing for 58 yards.
Bowie was the best wideout in 3A Region 6 this week as Morton bested St. Andrews Episcopal. Bowie racked up four receptions for 64 yards. Raheem Davis helped Morton's passing attack out by catching two balls for 57 yards.
Miles Porter's team's Slocum and Devonta Jones have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Slocum has thrown for 1501 yards this season, while Jones, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 26 catches for 614 yards. Marc Herrington's team's McGee leads the league in rushing yards with 808.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Forest takes on the Tigers. As it stands, the Bearcats are in third, while McLaurin is in first.
The Panthers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,262 from 7,901. The improvement was the result of 45-14 victory over J.J. Plummer's team last week.
