Sumner is 3-0 against Middleton since December of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Sumner Stingrays' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Middleton Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on December 11th. Hopefully Sumner focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
Last Friday, Sumner was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-38 to Newsome. Sumner has not had much luck with Newsome recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Sumner had strong showings from Devin Baker, who scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds, and Isaiah Williams, who scored 9 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Williams is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karsten Walker, who scored 6 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Middleton had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victor by a 50-29 margin over Brandon.
Middleton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Felix Harrell led the charge by scoring 17 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Harrell has scored at least 25% of Middleton's points. Chris Harris was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Their wins bumped Sumner to 3-2 and Newsome to 3-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's contest: Sumner have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 35.4% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Middleton, though, as they've only made 0% of theirs this season. Given Sumner's sizeable advantage in that area, Middleton will need to find a way to close that gap. Everything came up roses for Sumner against Middleton in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 64-19 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sumner since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
