The Mansfield Tigers will take on the Troy Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mansfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
Mansfield lost 14-5 to Towanda on Tuesday. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Riley Oakes and Cooper Shaw stepped up to the plate in a big way. Oakes went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double, while Shaw went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Troy waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Rams as they made off with a 13-3 win. Considering the Trojans have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Camden Allen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Allen was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Brendan Gilliland was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Reed Palmer, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Mansfield's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Troy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mansfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Troy struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mansfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Troy in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
