Basketball Game Preview: Wheeler Bearcats vs. Hebron Hawks

Wheeler hasn't had much luck against Hebron recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wheeler Bearcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hebron Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Friday, Wheeler came up short against Calumet New Tech and fell 54-46.

The losing side was boosted by Marek Barton, who went 5 of 12 en route to 11 points and five boards. What's more, he also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carter Blane, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Hebron's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell to South Central 62-57.

Wheeler will need focus on slowing down Peter Socci, one of several Hebron players who made an impact when they last played. He earned 20 points and five boards. The contest was Socci's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Wynsma, who had 16 points and five rebounds.

Wheeler's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Hebron, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wheeler has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 26.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hebron struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
