Woodside hasn't had much luck against Menchville recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Monarchs at 4:30 p.m. Woodside knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Menchville likes a good challenge.
Woodside had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Hampton on Thursday. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Crabbers. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 14, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Jaena Antonia Kay and Jaidah Armstead did most of the damage at the plate: Kay went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base, while Armstead got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave Kay a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lacey Allen, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Woodside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .585 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Menchville gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Grafton 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Monarchs have posted since May 14, 2025.
Taylor Twitchell (2027) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Menchville let Rashani Sackey (2026) and Alaina Cunningham (2029) run wild. Sackey (2026) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Cunningham (2029) went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Menchville's record is now 3-1. As for Woodside, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Woodside has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .545. However, it's not like Menchville struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodside suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Menchville in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
